In addition to performing, I have a passion for playwrighting and directing, and I plan to continue studying these art forms throughout my educational journey. Below is some information about the new works that I have had the pleasure of writing, directing, and producing!
When I was first informed that I would need to write a one act play as part of a school assignment, I was purely excited. That is, until the reality set in. Me, an amateur writer, with no story to tell would have to write a show. I spent endless nights brainstorming ideas about what to write about. It was a struggle. The little idea that came through after several (I mean way too many) brainstorming sessions turned a living, breathing thing in just over three months. “Look To The Sky” was born.
There is something so profound about grief, and how humans process it to me. While this story isn’t autobiographical, the themes explored throughout are not uncommon, and most of us know them all too well. Isolation, grief, rage, forgiveness, and reconciliation are part of the human experience, and are especially present in the lives of Fallon, Blaire, and Sam. Throughout the process, I learned to trust myself and my vision. The end result exceeded my expectations, and the experience as a whole will remain unforgettable. Just over a year after the initial premiere , “Look To The Sky” received the second place award for the Caffrey/Welles Fine Arts Award, sponsored by the Iseman Foundation. Throughout the entire writing, directing, and production period of “Look To The Sky”, I couldn’t seem to get enough of this writing thing! The hunger to create more was very present, and it was this that blossomed into my newest one-act and senior capstone project, “i see you”. The entire writing and production process remains one of the most exciting and fulfilling artistic ventures of my life, thus far.
“i see you” follows Sloan, an 18 year-old artist, as she is rediagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer, that will result in the loss of her eyesight in a few short months. “i see you” is a story about forgiveness, hardship, and learning that the answers we so often look for are inside of ourselves all along. “i see you” was presented on May 14th, 2022, at the Wilkes-Barre Area High School as part of the Creative and Performing Arts Academy’s Theatre 4 One-Act Showcase. The original cast featured Alivia Serkosky as Sloan, Abby Olander as Steph, Kayla Rhodes as Emmy, Cody Muller as Delaney, Mariah Lugo as Maria, and Serenaty Loutaif as Dr. Cassidy. Video recording of the full performance of “i see you” can be retrieved by contacting Nate Scullion directly.
